DISGUST AT LIBERAL DEMOCRAT TACTICS!

Brian Binley M.P. has expressed his disgust at the latest Liberal Democrat leaflet in Western Ward which published the text of a personal letter written by Mr. Binley to Lib Dem candidate Mrs. Maureen Hill when she decided to leave the Conservative group just before Christmas.

Mr. Binley wrote the personal letter as an act of good will at that time and indeed, Mrs. Hill stated how much she appreciated that kindness.

Mr. Binley said:

“I was amazed that a personal letter of good wishes could be cheapened in this way and I have written to Mrs Hill to express my disgust."

“The fact that she published my letter in a cheap attempt to suggest that I might support her candidature in some way is totally misleading.  I certainly wouldn’t have endorsed her candidature before the publication of the letter but am now even more adamant in my view that voters of Western Ward should not support her in the light of her extreme bad manners.”

My letter reads:

Dear Mrs Hill,

I was immensely saddened and disappointed to learn that you had used a personal letter of good wishes to you from myself for party political purposes.

I’m not sure what your code of good behaviour is but your actions certainly fall well short of my own, and I am surprised that you would prejudice what has until this point been a good personal relationship for petty political reasons.

I will of course now publish this letter on the basis that you have broken a personal confidence.
